Michelle Marshall, general counsel, presented revisions to Governing Board Policies – Section A – Foundations and Basic Commitment and Section B – Board Governance and Operations. Administration is recommending that the following Policies be adopted or revised:

  • Policy AABB – Board Member Authority and Responsibilities
  • Policy BBBA – Board Member Qualifications
  • Policy BBBC – Board Member Resignation
  • Policy BBBD – Board Member Removal from Office
  • Policy BBBE – Unexpired Term Fulfillment
  • Policy BDF – Advisory Committees
  • Policy BDH – Board Consults
  • Policy BEDBA – Agenda Preparation and Dissemination
  • Policy BEDB – Agenda
  • Policy BID – Board Member Compensation and Expenses

Dan Shearer, director of transportation, presented an overview of existing Transportation operations to the Board. District staff has been performing an operational review of the Transportation department and an analysis of current bus routes. An alignment of current practices and Governing Board Policy was discussed. Options to be considered for future budget discussions were also presented to the Board. In other action, the Governing Board:

  • Awarded RFP#9181, Medical Insurance Plan, to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Concordia (dental), Employers Dental Services (HMO dental plan), Contact, (employee assistance program) for an amount not to exceed $13 million for the 2009-10 fiscal year.   • Approved the revisions to Board Policy A – District Mission, Goals and Beliefs. To view the presentation, please visit http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.
  • Accepted gifts valued at $30,156.27. The gifts were received from Cochise APT, Desert Canyon Elementary PTO, Laguna PTO, Acadia Pride, AZ Character Education Foundation, Box Tops for Education, Leo Ewing, Honeywell, JP Morgan Chase, Christopher Reeve Foundation, Saguaro Diamond Club, Saguaro Publications and Target.

The next regular Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on March 3 at the Education Center.
