Scottsdale Unified School District Arizona’s Most Excelling School District!

Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy updated the Board on the status of the District’s construction projects, facilities, enrollment, staffing, financial health and Parent Notification System.

Governing Board President Karen Beckvar discussed the self-evaluation process and what instrument to use for a self-evaluation with other Board members. The proposed self-evaluation process would be to have the evaluation instrument filled out by Board members, Learning Leadership Team (LLT), principals, assistant principals, employee association officers, Scottsdale Parent Council executive board and last year’s Parent Teacher Organization presidents. The completed instruments would be sent to an external facilitator who would compile the results and present a summary to the Board at a date set for the Board’s self-evaluation. The evaluation would only deal with the Board as a whole.

In other action, the Board:

• Tabled the discussion of the New Policy for Energy Management and Conservation until August 28.
• Approved the Amendment to Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between SUSD and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health to fund tobacco-use based prevention programs.
• Approved acceptance of the 2007-2008 AIMS Intervention and Dropout Prevention Grant
• Approved Policy IKF – Graduation Requirements.
• Approved Policy JL – Student Wellness.
• Approved revisions to Flyer Policy KHB – Distribution/Display of Communications of School-related Organizations.
• Approved revisions to Flyer Policy KHC – Distribution/Display of Promotional Materials of Outside Organizations.
• Approved Saguaro High School Renovations required by City of Scottsdale – offsite modifications.
• Accepted gifts valued at $323,279. The gifts were received from C.H.A.P.T.S., Cheyenne PTO, Cochise APT, Desert Canyon Elementary PTO, Hopi PTA, Ingleside PTO, Kiva PTO, Laguna PTO, Saguaro Sabercat Football Foundation, Tonalea PTO, American Character Education Foundation, AZ Chapter of US Lacrosse/Saguaro Lacrosse Club, Linda Boudreau, Charro Don Chiapetti, Fran Kaplan, Dan Harkins, Mary J. Planter, Southern Poverty Law Center, SUSD Foundation, Valley of the Sun United Way, Target, Virginia Piper Charitable Trust and Wells Fargo Foundation
  

The next two regular Governing Board meetings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on August 28 and September 11 at the Education Center. A Work/Study session is scheduled for 4 p.m. on September 25 at the Education Center.
