Meeting of January 22, 2008 BOARD BRIEFS

Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy presented to the Governing Board an accelerated timeline to bring options to them regarding facility usage based on discussions at the Board Meeting on January 8th.

Jeff Thomas, executive director for Human Capital, presented to the Board key areas of focus from each employee group for this year’s Meet and Confer. Dr. Michael Helminski, president of Scottsdale Affiliated Administrators (SAA); Eric Kurland, president of the Scottsdale Education Association (SEA); and Dan Granger, president of the Scottsdale Support Personnel Association (SSPA); each presented on behalf of their constituents. Additionally, Mr. Thomas gave the Governing Board an update on Phased Retirement. The Board approved a Phased Retirement Program (RFP#7120) on November 14, 2006 and awarded the RFP to Smartschoolsplus. The implementation required a report back to the Board regarding the program’s efficiency and recommendations for future implementation of Phased Retirement. In other action, the Governing Board:

  • Approved the EIS Program Enhancements and Update. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.
     
  • Approved the revisions to Policy BEDB – Agenda.
     
  • Accepted gifts valued at $42,811. The gifts were received from Anasazi PTO, Cheyenne PTO, Cochise APT, DCES PTO, DMHS PTO, Sequoya APT, Office Max, Rodel Charitable Foundation, Scottsdale Charros, Silver Leaf Golf Club and Wells Fargo.

A Math Work/Study Board meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on January 31 at the Education Center. The next regular Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on February 12 at the Education Center.
